| Extra Erosion Protection for Bell Rotor Blades
In 1987, Composite Technology, Inc. of Grand Prairie, TX, developed a 206 main rotor abrasion strip to prevent erosion of the aluminum spar. After testing, the latter was approved by Bell Helicopter and the FAA. Hundreds of them have been installed and flown. On a similar note, CTI has also developed nickel abrasion strips as expanded repairs for 206 tail rotors, 412 and 212 mains and tails. Considered as STCs or Expanded Repairs, these abrasion strips have one thing in common: to extend the life of the blades and thus reduce operating costs for helicopter operators.
Just remember that these supplemental erosion strips are field removable and may be applied to NEW or USED blades.
