Sikorsky Aircraft has granted Composite Technology, Inc., Grand Prairie, Texas, worldwide factory authorization to add the S-61 to an existing agreement to repair main rotors and tail rotor blades for the airframe manufacturer's older civilian types. The agreement also extends the current agreement (first signed in 1991) to January 2005, and covers repairs to the S-55, S-58, S-64 Skycrane and the S-76. The revised agreement covers an additional 250 S-61s worldwide, according to CTI officials….
Michael Topa, CTI president, and Michael Blake, vice president of worldwide customer service at Sikorsky Aircraft, signed the agreement earlier this year. "By having the license, you have access to the data from the manufacturer," Topa says. "We have the equivalent capabilities of Sikorsky. We are doing depot-level work, using specialized tooling, training, and so on."
CTI overhauls damaged or debonded rotors, bringing them back into operational limits and in serviceable condition. The repairs are not intended as a life-extension overhaul of the blades…
