Bell Abrasion Strips
  • In 1987, CTI developed an abrasion strip to prevent erosion of the aluminum spar on the 206 main rotor blade. The strip was tested and approved by Bell Helicopter Textron and the FAA under a STC.

  • Over the years, hundreds of supplemental strips have been installed. Also, a nickel abrasion strip has been developed for Bell 206 tail rotors, 412 main and tails, and 212 main and tails.

  • These abrasion strips extend the life of the blades and reduce DOC by protecting the spar or the underlying abrasion strip. Extending the life or slowing the erosion reduces the cost of operating helicopters.

  • Supplemental erosion strips are adhesive bonded and may be removed in the field if they become debonded or are damaged. When removed in the field, the blade returns to an "as manufactured" condition to fly the remaining life.

  • These erosions strips may be applied to new or serviceable rotor blades.
MD Helicopters and Schweizer Abrasion Strips
  • In 1982, CTI also developed a 36" abrasion strip for Schweizer (269 M/R) and MD Helicopters (369 M/R) rotor blades. These strips are approved by the manufacturers and the FAA under a STC.

  • Thousands of 36" abrasion strips have been installed. They are now an industry standard.

  • The longer strip (manufacturer installed strips were 18") protects a greater area of the blade from erosion extending its life.

  • The 36" abrasion strip may be installed on new or serviceable rotor blades.
